SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary)
Location: Ashington,
Salary: £75-£110 per day
Start Date: Immediately

GSL Education are recruiting a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to work in a primary school in Ashington. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs. The successful candidate will work closely with children to help them overcome barriers to learning, enabling them to thrive both academically and personally.

Job Summary: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be an integral part of a dedicated team supporting children with SEMH needs in the primary school setting. You will assist in creating an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child feels safe, supported, and encouraged to achieve their potential.

Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Support students with SEMH needs in small groups or one-to-one settings.
  • Help maintain a positive and safe classroom environment.
  • Assist the teacher in implementing individual learning plans and behavioural strategies.
  • Encourage and support the development of self-regulation and coping strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents.

Required Qualifications for an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs.
  • A compassionate and patient approach to supporting children.
  • Strong communication and interactive skills.
  • Ability to manage behaviour effectively in challenging situations.
  • A teaching assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • A relevant qualification in Education or Psychology is desirable but not essential.
