SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary)

Salary: £75 - £110 daily
Start Date: Immediate

GSL Education’s Newcastle branch is currently recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in a supportive and inclusive secondary school in Ashington. This role requires an individual who is dynamic, patient and committed to making a positive impact on the lives of students with SEMH needs. You will be part of a nurturing environment, focusing on building strong relationships and helping students overcome barriers to learning.

Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide personalised support to students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, both on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Assist in the planning and delivering of engaging lessons that meet individual learning requirements.
  • Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Foster a positive learning environment to encourage student participation and emotional well-being.
  • Support classroom behaviour management, promoting positive behaviour strategies.

Required Qualifications for an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and parents.
  • A relevant qualification in Education or Psychology is desirable but not essential.
