Textiles Teacher
Location: Selby, North Yorkshire
Salary: £31650 – £49804 MPS/UPS – Early Career Teachers are welcome to apply
Contract Type: 4 days per week, 1-year contract (Maternity Cover)
Start Date: September 2025

GSL Education North Yorkshire are seeking a Qualified Teacher of Textiles to join a highly reputable school in Selby, for a maternity cover position starting in September 2025. The ideal candidate must have experience teaching GCSE Textiles.

Textiles Teacher Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – Achieved through a PGCE, School Direct, SCITT, or Teach First.
  • Relevant Degree – A Bachelor’s degree in Textiles, Fashion, Design Technology, or a related subject.
  • Experience Teaching Textiles – Experience delivering Textiles at KS3 & KS4 (KS5 is desirable).
  • Strong Knowledge of Curriculum – Familiarity with the National Curriculum for Design & Technology (D&T), including exam board specifications (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, etc.).
  • Classroom Management Skills – Ability to engage, inspire, and manage behaviour effectively.
  • Lesson Planning & Assessment – Experience planning practical and theoretical lessons, marking work, and assessing progress.
  • Health & Safety Awareness – Understanding of safe use of sewing machines, fabric cutting tools, heat presses, and other specialist equipment.
  • DBS Check – Enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) certificate, registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Safeguarding Training – Up-to-date knowledge of child protection policies.
  • Right to Work in the UK – Must have full working rights (e.g., British/Irish citizenship, Settled Status, or valid work visa).

Textiles Teacher Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience with CAD/CAM for Textiles (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, digital embroidery machines).
  • Experience supporting GCSE & A-Level coursework and exam preparation.
  • Ability to teach other D&T specialisms (e.g., Graphics, Resistant Materials, or Food Technology).
