Classroom Support
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire
Salary: £12.82 per hour
Start Date: Immediate / September 2025 start
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent (Part-time available for the right candidate)

GSL Education are currently seeking a committed and flexible Classroom Support professional to join a welcoming mainstream secondary school in Portsmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are dedicated to supporting students’ academic and personal development.
About the role:
As a Classroom Support, you’ll be working closely with teachers and pupils, providing day-to-day assistance across lessons and helping students engage with their learning. Prior experience in education or working with young people is highly valued, and experience with SEN is an added bonus.
Responsibilities of a Classroom Support:
- Provide classroom-based support across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
- Assist students with their academic and social development.
- Support individuals and small groups in their learning.
- Work alongside the class teacher and SENCO to meet students’ needs.
- Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
- Monitor pupil progress and behaviour, reporting concerns as needed.
Classroom Support Requirements:
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or Childcare.
- A degree in Psychology, SEN, Counselling, Education or similar field.
- Previous experience as a Classroom Support in a school or youth support role preferred.
- SEN experience is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to support students in a calm, patient, and encouraging manner.
- A proactive and adaptable approach to support.
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
