Job Title: Secondary Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant
Location: Chesterfield
Salary: £100 - £110 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time
Are you an experienced and compassionate support professional ready to make a positive impact in secondary education? A welcoming school in Chesterfield is seeking a Secondary Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant to work with students aged 11–16 who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to secondary students with SEMH needs.
- Build strong, trusting relationships to help students regulate emotions and stay engaged.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to deliver targeted interventions.
- Support classroom learning and behaviour management in line with personalised support plans.
- Travel to alternative provisions or across school sites as required.
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student growth.
Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting students with SEMH, ideally at the secondary level.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Excellent communication and de-escalation skills.
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- A flexible and proactive approach to daily challenges.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
