This full-time, permanent role is based in a welcoming mainstream primary school setting, with both immediate and post-summer start dates available. About the Role:
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work alongside teaching staff to provide dedicated behavioural support to pupils who may display challenging behaviours or emotional difficulties. Your role will be instrumental in fostering a positive learning environment, promoting emotional regulation, and helping pupils develop coping strategies so they can fully access the curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small groups to improve engagement and classroom behaviour.
- Implement strategies to de-escalate challenging situations and promote self-regulation.
- Liaise with SENCOs and teaching staff to deliver consistent and tailored support.
- Build trusting relationships with pupils to understand their individual needs and triggers.
- Encourage and support children in achieving their educational and personal targets.
- Contribute to behaviour management planning and progress tracking.
Job Requirements:
- A strong desire to support young people with behavioural challenges in education.
- Prior experience working in an educational, care, or support setting with children with SEMH, SEN, behavioural challenges, or additional learning needs will be an advantage.
- Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.
- Candidates with experience supporting behaviour in school or care settings
- University students seeking practical experience in child development or education
- SEN experience is a strong advantage.
- Those with a calm, firm, and compassionate approach to behaviour management
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
