Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Winchester
Salary Range: £13.68 to £14.88 per hour (depending on experience)
Start time: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-Day/Long-Term, Full-time/Part-time

GSL Education are looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a welcoming and inclusive school setting in Winchester. About the role:

In the role of a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will play a key role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other learning difficulties. Working closely with teachers and SENCOs, you will help create a structured and engaging learning environment that enables all students to achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated support to SEN pupils, adapting strategies to meet their specific needs.
  • Work under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual learning plans.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to encourage confidence, independence, and engagement.
  • Assist in classroom management and promote a calm, productive learning environment.
  • Record and report pupil progress and behaviours in line with school policies.
  • Support children during break times, transitions, and off-site activities where applicable.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of special educational needs, particularly in supporting students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or speech and language difficulties.
  • Proven experience supporting pupils with SEN in a school or similar setting.
  • A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or above) is highly desirable.
  • A thorough understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to different situations and needs.
  • A proactive, resilient, and compassionate approach to learning support.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
