Mental Health and Wellbeing Support Assistant – SEN Schools
Location: Lincoln
Start Date: Immediate / After Easter / September 2025
Full-time / Part-time / Term-time Only
Salary: £80 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
GSL Education is seeking a passionate and dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing Support Assistant to join a team of professionals in SEN schools across Lincoln. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about supporting students with additional needs, particularly focusing on mental health, emotional wellbeing, and behavioural support. As a Mental Health and Wellbeing Support Assistant, you will work closely with students, staff, and other support services to enhance students’ mental health, emotional wellbeing, and social development, ensuring that they are fully supported in their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide support to students with emotional and mental health needs, creating a safe and positive environment for them to thrive

Work with teachers and SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to develop and implement strategies that promote mental health and emotional wellbeing

Assist in managing student behaviour and implementing appropriate strategies to de-escalate and prevent challenging behaviour

Support students in developing coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges

Offer one-to-one or group support to students needing mental health assistance and provide guidance on emotional regulation

Collaborate with external mental health professionals and agencies to ensure students’ needs are being met

Encourage students to participate in social and extracurricular activities to help build confidence and social skills

Provide regular feedback to staff, parents, and guardians on students' progress and wellbeing

Assist in creating and maintaining a safe and supportive classroom environment for all students
Essential Requirements:

A degree in Psychology, Mental Health, Social Work, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Previous experience working with children and young people with mental health or SEN (Special Educational Needs) in a school or support setting

Passion for supporting children and young people with emotional and mental health challenges

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Ability to work empathetically and build strong, positive relationships with students, parents, and staff

Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations effectively

Experience working with SEN, particularly students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs

A proactive approach to problem-solving and managing student wellbeing

DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
Desirable:
-
Experience working in an educational setting or as a Mental Health Support Worker in schools

Training in mental health first aid or similar qualifications
-
Knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL) and trauma-informed practices
-
Experience with supporting students through targeted mental health interventions
