SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Southampton
Salary: £13.68 to £14.88 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join schools across Southampton.
About the role:
In this SEN TA role, you will provide vital support to students with special educational needs, assisting them in their learning and helping them overcome challenges they may face. We offer both day-to-day and long-term roles to suit your availability, with the opportunity to work in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Responsibilities of SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):
- Provide tailored support to students with special educational needs, including learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, and other behavioural needs.
- Work alongside teachers and the SENCO to implement individual learning plans and strategies.
- Assist students in accessing the curriculum and engaging in classroom activities.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional development, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Support students' social integration and help them develop essential life skills.
- Monitor and track students' progress, reporting feedback to teachers and parents.
- Help prepare classroom materials and assist with the organisation of classroom activities.
- Offer pastoral support to students, ensuring their well-being and providing a safe and nurturing space.
- Encourage students to build independence and take responsibility for their learning.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Skills & Requirements for SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Prior experience working as a teaching assistant or in a similar support role, particularly with SEN students.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, SEN, Counselling, Education or a similar field.
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance (desirable but not essential).
- A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or the willingness to apply for a new check.
