SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Portsmouth
Salary: £13.68 to £14.88 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are currently looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support students in schools across Portsmouth. This flexible role is suitable for candidates seeking either daily supply or longer-term placements, and offers an excellent opportunity to make a lasting difference in a child’s educational journey.
As a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will play a vital role in assisting students with a variety of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and learning disabilities. You will work under the guidance of teachers and SENCOs to deliver individualised support and ensure that students are able to access the curriculum effectively.
SEN TA Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with special educational needs.
- Assist pupils in developing independent learning and life skills.
- Support the class teacher in implementing tailored learning strategies.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the teaching team.
- Manage and support positive behaviour interventions.
- Help create a safe, positive, and stimulating learning environment.
- Promote inclusion and equality in the classroom and throughout the school.
- Adapt learning materials and resources to meet the needs of individual pupils.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.
- Provide personal care and emotional support where required.
Requirements for Special Needs Teaching Assistant:
- Prior experience working with children, ideally in an SEN or classroom setting as a SEN Teaching Assistant.
- A degree in Psychology, SEN, Counselling, Education or a similar field.
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance (desirable).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach to working with students.
- Understanding of SEN strategies and a genuine passion for inclusive education.
- An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service or willingness to apply for a new one.
