Location: Wareham
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on Experience)

GSL Education are seeking a committed and nurturing Mental Health Teaching Assistant to work in schools across Wareham.

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant (Mental Health TA), you will play a crucial role in supporting students who may be experiencing anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, or other mental health concerns. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to provide tailored emotional and academic support. Your guidance can help create a secure learning environment where students feel heard, valued, and supported.

Your Responsibilities as a Mental Health TA:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Assist pupils in managing emotions and building self-regulation skills.
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement within the classroom.
  • Encourage student participation and help them develop confidence in learning.
  • Monitor emotional wellbeing and report any concerns to relevant staff.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and mental health professionals to implement support strategies.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all learners.

Mental Health Teaching Assistant Qualification:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with mental health or emotional needs as a Mental Health Teaching Assistant.
  • Qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Teaching Assistant, Childcare or Education, or a mental health-related certification (desirable).
  • A degree in Psychology, Education or a similar field.
  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach to supporting learners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A good understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
  • Possess an enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
