Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Salary: £12.82 per hour
Start Date: Easter 2025 or September 2025 start
Contract: Full-time, permanent (part-time can also be arranged for the right candidate)

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a vibrant mainstream primary school in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside dedicated teaching staff and help shape the learning journey of young learners.

About the Role:

As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA), you will provide essential classroom and individual support to pupils across Key Stages 1 and 2. You’ll assist with learning activities, ensure children remain engaged and supported, and help maintain a positive, inclusive environment. Experience with SEN pupils is highly desirable, but not essential.

Learning Support Assistant (LSA) Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support, ensuring students stay engaged and on task.
  • Assist in delivering differentiated lesson plans and adapting materials to suit individual learning needs.
  • Support students with literacy, numeracy, and communication skills, helping them gain confidence in their abilities.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support students with social and emotional development.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and SEN staff to create an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and SENCOs to tailor support strategies.
  • Assist with classroom organisation, including preparing learning materials and resources.

Learning Support Assistant (LSA) Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a Learning Support, Teaching Assistant, or similar role.
  • Understanding of learning difficulties and SEN needs, including Speech and Language Delays, Autism, and ADHD.
  • Individuals with experience supporting children in educational or care settings
  • University students looking for hands-on experience in a school environment
  • Applicants with SEN knowledge or transferable care/support skills
  • Enthusiastic candidates eager to contribute to pupils’ development and wellbeing.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
