Job Title: English Teacher
Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Salary: £30,000 - £46,535 per annum (Depending on experience).
Start time: After Easter 2025 or September 2025
Contract Type: Full-Time (Permanent/Fixed Term) (Part-time available for the right candidate)

About the Role:

As an English Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in engaging and inspiring students through a dynamic and creative curriculum. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons, and fostering a love for literature and language while ensuring academic progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver innovative and challenging lessons in line with the national curriculum.
  • Teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4 (Key Stage 5 experience is desirable).
  • Develop engaging and differentiated resources to support student learning.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback and tailored support.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation.
  • Support students in preparing for GCSE and A-Level exams, ensuring they achieve their full potential.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the school’s English department.
  • Participate in school-wide activities, including extra-curricular English clubs, workshops and interventions.

Requirements:

  • Must have a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or be an Early Career Teacher (ECT).
  • A degree in English or a closely related subject.
  • Proven experience in teaching English at the secondary level, with a strong track record of student achievement.
  • Applications from overseas-trained teachers meeting UK teaching standards are welcomed.
  • Experienced Teaching Assistants or Cover Supervisors looking to transition into teaching will also be considered.
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge and understanding of the national curriculum for English.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff and parents.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
