Autism Support Worker
Location: Christchurch
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 Per Hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time/Part-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Autism Support Worker to provide tailored support to students in schools across Christchurch. This role is ideal for someone with patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to making a positive impact on students’ learning and well-being. You will work closely with teachers and SENCOs to create an inclusive and supportive learning experience.

Responsibilities of an Autism Support Worker:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with autism.
  • Adapt learning materials and strategies to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and assist with emotional regulation techniques.
  • Support students in developing social, communication, and life skills.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and SEN staff to implement personalised learning plans.
  • Foster a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to the teaching team.

Autism Support Worker Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children with autism in an educational or care setting as an Autism Support Worker.
  • A degree in Psychology, counselling, education or a similar field.
  • Knowledge of autism strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory integration (desirable but not essential).
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Health & Social care (preferred).
  • A patient, understanding, and adaptable approach to working with students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
  • Possess an enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
