SEMH Teacher

Location: Chesterfield
Salary: £150 - £200 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate

About the role:

As an SEMH Teacher, you will provide specialist support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them engage with their learning and develop crucial life skills. This is a fantastic opportunity for both experienced teachers and newly qualified teachers (ECTs) to gain valuable experience in a rewarding and supportive school environment.

What you have to do as a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teacher:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the needs of students with SEMH difficulties.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students, promoting positive engagement and progress.
  • Foster an inclusive and safe learning environment where students feel valued and supported.
  • Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor progress, adapting strategies to suit students' emotional and academic needs.
  • Support students in managing their behaviour and emotions, using a variety of strategies to de-escalate challenging situations.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure students’ well-being and academic success.
  • Encourage social interaction and personal development, enabling students to build self-confidence and resilience.

SEMH Teacher Qualification:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH or other special educational needs as an SEMH Teacher.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to supporting students with emotional and social challenges.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
