Job Title: Early Years Practitioner for Primary School
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire
Salary: £12.82 per hour
Start Date: Immediate/ Easter 2025 start
Contract: Full-time (part-time can also be arranged for the right candidate)

GSL Education are recruiting a dedicated Early Years Practitioner to support young learners in a well-resourced and welcoming mainstream primary school in Portsmouth. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of early childhood development to help create a stimulating and supportive learning environment for children at a crucial stage in their education.
About the Role:
As an Early Years Practitioner, you will be working within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to support children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development. Your role will involve assisting in classroom activities, play-based learning, and individual support to ensure every child gets the best possible start in their education.
Responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner:
- Assist in delivering the EYFS curriculum, ensuring lessons are engaging, creative, and developmentally appropriate.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment, encouraging children to explore and learn.
- Support children's language, numeracy, and motor skill development through structured and play-based activities.
- Observe and assess children's progress, reporting findings to teachers and parents.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support, catering to children with varying learning needs.
- Encourage positive social interactions and emotional development in early learners.
- Assist with toileting, feeding, and personal care where necessary.
- Engage in sensory play, storytelling, and outdoor learning to enhance children's educational experiences.
- Collaborate with teachers and parents to develop individualised learning strategies for children who need additional support.
Requirements of the Early Years Practitioner: To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education, Childcare, or equivalent (preferred but not essential).
- Previous experience working with children in an Early Years or Nursery setting is beneficial.
- A good understanding of the EYFS framework and early childhood development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with children, staff, and parents.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and creativity, with a passion for helping young learners thrive.
- Experience supporting children with SEN, speech and language delays, or behavioural challenges (desired but not essential).
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
