SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Southampton
Salary: £13.68 to £14.88 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long Term, Full-Time/Part-Time

If so, GSL Education are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join our team and support students across schools in Southampton. This is an incredibly rewarding role that offers both day-to-day and long-term placements, with the flexibility to choose between full-time and part-time work.

About the role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in providing tailored assistance to students with diverse needs, helping them to develop their skills, confidence, and independence. You will work closely with classroom teachers and other support staff to ensure that every child receives the individual attention and care they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities of SEN TA:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEN.
  • Assist in planning and delivering personalised learning activities.
  • Support students’ emotional and social development through positive interactions.
  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and record progress.
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility support when necessary.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and adapt resources.

Qualification of SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or similar role is desirable.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, education or a similar field.
  • A relevant qualification such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An empathetic and patient approach when working with students with additional needs.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
