Job Title: English Teacher for SEN College
Location: Maidstone
Salary: £140 - £250 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

Role Overview:

As an English Teacher at this SEN College, you will play a vital role in delivering tailored English lessons that cater to the unique needs of students with diverse learning requirements. You will be responsible for creating an engaging, supportive, and structured environment that fosters both academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver creative and accessible English lessons that accommodate a range of SEN learning needs.
  • Adapt teaching strategies and materials to support students with autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and other SEN requirements.
  • Assess students’ progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to support their development.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages confidence and participation.
  • Work collaboratively with SEN support staff, therapists, and parents to develop effective learning strategies.
  • Implement behaviour management techniques to create a structured and respectful learning environment.
  • Support students in developing communication and literacy skills essential for their academic and personal growth.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience teaching English to students with SEN, ideally within a college or specialist school setting.
  • A strong understanding of differentiated instruction, EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans), and SEN teaching strategies.
  • Exceptional classroom management skills and the ability to adapt to various learning needs.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to teaching and supporting students with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and a passion for inclusive education.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
