SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Chesterfield
Salary: £86 - £100 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediately
Contract Type: Day-to-day/ Long Term, Full-Time / Part-Time

GSL Education are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to join a supportive and inclusive school in Chesterfield. You will be working closely with students who face challenges related to their mental health and well-being, helping them to develop confidence, self-esteem, and positive coping strategies. Whether you are experienced in working with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH)needs or are looking to build your skills in this field, we encourage you to apply.

What you have to do as an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist teachers in delivering personalised and inclusive lessons.
  • Promote positive behaviour and social interactions among students.
  • Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and resilience.
  • Monitor students' progress and report concerns to the SENCO or class teacher.
  • Support students in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
  • Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment that supports students’ well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to develop individual support plans.

Requirements for a SEMH TA:

  • A degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education or a similar field.
  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance is desirable.
  • Previous experience working with students with SEMH or behavioural needs as an SEMH Teaching Assistant is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • An empathetic, patient, and resilient attitude towards working with vulnerable students.
  • The ability to manage challenging behaviours confidently and calmly.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
