Location: Hull
Salary: £88 - £105 per day (Depending on experience)

Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are offering a rewarding opportunity for a Teaching Assistant specialising in SEMH to support young learners in Hull. This role is ideal for someone who is committed to making a positive impact on student’s educational and emotional development while fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Role Overview:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will play a crucial role in supporting students who face emotional and behavioural challenges. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in managing behaviours, providing academic support, and helping students develop self-confidence and coping strategies. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff, you will ensure that all students receive tailored support that meets their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, ensuring they remain engaged in learning.
- Implement individual behaviour plans and emotional regulation strategies, working collaboratively with school staff and external professionals.
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where students feel supported and valued.
- Assist in de-escalating challenging behaviours and promoting positive interactions.
- Support students in developing social skills, emotional intelligence, and resilience.
- Work closely with teachers to differentiate learning materials and adapt activities to meet the needs of students.
- Act as a mentor and role model, encouraging positive behaviour and a growth mindset.
- Provide regular feedback to teachers, parents, and external professionals on student progress and well-being.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies, prioritising student welfare at all times.
Requirements:
- Experience working with SEMH students in a school or alternative provision setting.
- A strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and experience implementing de-escalation techniques.
- A compassionate and patient approach, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
- A relevant qualification in education, psychology, youth work, or counselling (desirable but not essential).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Resilience and adaptability, with a commitment to supporting students with complex needs.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
