SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Grimsby
Salary: £83.33 - £95.00 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Full-time

If so, GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to join schools in Grimsby.

In this role, you will provide essential support to students with SEMH needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with experience in SEMH environments, care settings, or those with a passion for making a difference.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH needs on a one-to-one and small group basis.
  • Assist with implementing personalised learning plans and strategies.
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Assist students in developing their social, emotional, and behavioural skills.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to support students' progress.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours with empathy and resilience.
  • Encourage students to engage positively with their learning and social interactions.
  • Monitor and record students' progress and communicate effectively with staff.
  • Promote positive relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies.
  • Uphold the school's behaviour and safeguarding policies at all times.

Requirements for SEMH TA:

  • Any degree in Psychology, counselling, education or a similar field.
  • Previous experience working with SEMH or challenging behaviour as an SEMH Teaching Assistant is essential.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or equivalent.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach when supporting students with SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willing to apply for one.
