Job Title: Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Christchurch, Dorset
Salary: £12.83 per hour
Start Date: Immediate/ Easter 2025 start
Contract: Full-time, permanent (part-time can also be arranged for the right candidate)

About the Role:
As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will play a vital role in assisting students with Special Educational Needs, ensuring they receive the tailored support required to succeed. This position involves working closely with teachers and other support staff to implement personalised learning plans, providing one-on-one assistance and promoting a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEN and SEMH needs, ensuring they engage positively with the curriculum.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), adapting learning materials and strategies to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Support students in managing their emotions, behaviour and social interactions, promoting confidence and self-regulation.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and external professionals to ensure holistic support for students.
- Monitor and document student progress, providing regular feedback to staff and parents.
- Maintain a safe, nurturing and structured environment that encourages student participation and independence.
- Uphold school policies on safeguarding, behaviour management and inclusion, ensuring a supportive atmosphere for all learners.
Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Job Requirements:
- Experience working with individuals with SEN, disabilities, or complex needs.
- Understanding of Autism, ADHD and SEMH needs and how to implement effective support strategies.
- Knowledge of communication techniques such as PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods (desirable but not essential).
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred but not mandatory).
- Strong empathy, patience and resilience in managing behavioural and emotional challenges.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
