Job Title: Academic Support Assistant
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire
Salary: £12.83 per hour
Start Date: Immediate/ Easter 2025 start
Contract: Full-time, permanent (part-time can also be arranged for the right candidate)

GSL Education are inviting applications for an Academic Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary mainstream school in Portsmouth. About the Role:

As an Academic Support Assistant, you will play a key role in fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. Working closely with teachers and SEN staff, you will provide targeted academic support, assist with classroom activities, and help students build confidence in their learning journey.

Responsibilities of the Academic Support for Secondary:

  • Provide academic support to pupils across Key Stages 1 and 2, tailoring assistance to individual learning needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons and differentiated activities.
  • Support children with additional learning needs, ensuring they receive the necessary interventions.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere where all pupils feel encouraged to reach their full potential.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs.
  • Supervise small group activities and one-to-one interventions when required.
  • Promote positive behaviour and social development within the school environment.

Requirements of the Academic Support for Secondary: To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational, tutoring, or support capacity is desirable.
  • A strong academic background and a passion for helping children succeed.
  • Ability to engage and motivate young learners in an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to supporting learning in a dynamic school environment.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
