Job Title: Behaviour Support Mentor
Location: Farnborough, Hampshire
Salary: £12.83 per hour
Start Date: Immediate/ Easter 2025
Contract: Full-time, permanent (part-time can also be arranged for the right candidate)

GSL Education are looking for a Behaviour Support Mentor to work within a secondary mainstream school in Farnborough. Hampshire. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong understanding of behaviour management, a passion for education, and the ability to provide guidance and encouragement to students facing challenges in their learning.

About the Role:

As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, emotional well-being, and student engagement across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and SEN staff to create a structured and supportive environment, helping students overcome behavioural barriers to their education.

Responsibilities of the Behaviour Support Mentor:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with behavioural, emotional, and social challenges.
  • Implement behaviour intervention strategies to encourage positive conduct and classroom engagement.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining behaviour management plans, working closely with the SENCO and teaching staff.
  • Support students in building confidence, self-regulation, and resilience within an educational setting.
  • De-escalate challenging situations and promote a safe, structured learning environment.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff to encourage personal and academic growth.
  • Help implement school policies on behaviour and inclusion, ensuring a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for all students.

Requirements of the Behaviour Support Mentor: To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A strong desire to support young people with behavioural challenges in education.
  • Previous experience in mentoring, youth work, teaching assistance, or pastoral support is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive and empathetic approach to working with students of diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Ability to adapt behaviour support strategies to individual student needs.
  • University students or recent graduates looking for hands-on experience in education are encouraged to apply.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
