Salary: £12.83 per hour
Start Date: Immediate/ Easter 2025
Contract: Full-time, permanent (part-time can also be arranged for the right candidate)

GSL Education are seeking an a dedicated Learning Support to join a secondary mainstream school in Waterlooville, Hampshire. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong commitment to helping students overcome learning barriers, develop their confidence, and achieve their full potential.

About the Role:

As a Learning Support in a secondary school, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to provide tailored academic and emotional support to students. You will assist in delivering targeted interventions, managing classroom behaviour, and fostering an inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and supported.

Responsibilities of the Secondary Learning Support:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students who require additional help in their studies.
  • Assist teachers in planning and adapting lesson materials to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Encourage student engagement and participation in both academic and extracurricular activities.
  • Offer pastoral care and mentoring, promoting students' emotional well-being and resilience.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and ensure a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Support students with special educational needs (SEN) or those facing learning challenges.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and support staff.

Requirements of the Secondary Learning Support:

  • Previous experience working in education, youth work, or a support role is highly desirable.
  • A genuine passion for working with young people and supporting their academic growth.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students and staff.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team while also using initiative when required.
  • A patient, understanding, and motivational approach to working with students.
  • University students looking to gain classroom experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
