GSL Education presents an excellent opportunity for a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join a welcoming school in Wareham. This role is ideal for individuals who have experience in education, care work, SEN support, or social care and who are committed to providing vital assistance to students who require additional support in their learning journey.

About the Role:

As a Support Worker, you will work closely with students, teachers and school staff to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of learning needs, disabilities, or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. Your role will involve ensuring students receive the encouragement and guidance they need to develop independence, confidence and engagement in education.

Responsibilities of Support Worker:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with additional learning needs.
  • Encouraging student engagement, participation and confidence in the classroom.
  • Assisting with social, emotional and behavioural support, ensuring students feel safe and supported.
  • Implementing individual learning plans (ILPs) and behaviour management strategies in collaboration with teachers and SENCOs.
  • Supporting students with autism, ADHD, SEMH needs and learning difficulties, promoting their development and well-being.
  • Assisting with daily routines, mobility support and structured activities tailored to students’ abilities.
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to staff, parents and external professionals.
  • Creating a nurturing and inclusive environment that fosters respect, independence and positive relationships.

What We’re Looking For: To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Experience in education support, care work, social care, or SEN assistance is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of inclusive education, additional learning needs and behaviour management strategies.
  • Patience, resilience and the ability to build strong relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and caring approach.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and external professionals to support students' holistic development.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and the needs of vulnerable children.
  • Training in first aid, moving and handling, or Makaton/PECS would be beneficial but not essential.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
  • Have an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or be willing to apply for a new one through GSL Education.
