GSL Education are offering an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Lincoln. This role is ideal for individuals with healthcare experience, particularly those with a background in assisting individuals with SEN, SEMH and complex medical needs.

About the Role:

As a Health Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the medical, emotional and social well-being of students with additional needs. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs medical professionals and support staff, you will assist in delivering personalised care plans and ensuring that students receive the support they require to access education comfortably and safely.

Health Care Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group care support to students with SEN, SEMH and medical needs.
  • Assist with personal care tasks, including hygiene, mobility support and feeding, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
  • Monitor and record students’ medical and emotional well-being, reporting concerns to relevant staff members.
  • Assist students in accessing the curriculum, offering physical and emotional support throughout their educational journey.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and families to provide a holistic approach to student care.
  • Support the implementation of positive behaviour management techniques, fostering a nurturing and structured environment.
  • Adhere to school safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the highest standards of care and protection for students.

Health Care Assistant Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant, Support Worker, or similar role within SEN, SEMH, or healthcare settings.
  • A relevant qualification in Health and Social Care (Level 2 or Level 3) or equivalent (desirable but not essential for experienced candidates).
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management and personal care protocols.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and colleagues.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to the varying needs of students.
  • A patient, compassionate and resilient nature, with a genuine commitment to supporting students with SEN and SEMH.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
