About the Role:
As a Complex Needs Support Worker, you will play an essential role in providing one-to-one and group support to students with a range of special educational needs, disabilities and emotional or behavioural challenges. Your focus will be on fostering independence, confidence and social development, ensuring that each child receives the individualised support they require to succeed.
Essential Qualities That We Are Looking For:
- Provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support to students with complex needs, SEN and SEMH.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs).
- Offer emotional and behavioural support, helping students develop self-regulation skills and confidence.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, SENCOs and families to deliver an integrated support system.
- Adapt learning resources and assist with personal care tasks where necessary, ensuring students’ comfort and dignity.
- Implement de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour management techniques to support students with behavioural difficulties.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, behaviours and interventions, contributing to planning and review meetings.
- Promote an inclusive, safe and structured environment, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.
- Uphold school safeguarding and behaviour policies, prioritising student safety and well-being.
To be considered for this role, you must have::
- Experience supporting individuals with complex needs, SEN, or SEMH in an educational or care setting.
- A relevant qualification such as a Level 2 or Level 3 in Health and Social Care, Teaching Assistance, or equivalent (desirable but not essential for experienced candidates).
- A strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build trust with students, staff and families.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to the changing needs of students.
- A patient, empathetic and proactive mindset, with a passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
