About the Role:
As a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will provide individualised and group support to pupils with a range of special educational needs (SEN), including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties and behavioural challenges. You will work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to create a learning environment where every child feels valued, understood and supported.
Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEN, tailoring interventions to their individual needs.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of structured learning activities, ensuring an engaging and accessible curriculum.
- Implement behavioural and sensory support strategies, helping students to manage their emotions and interactions.
- Encourage and support students in developing social skills, independence and self-confidence.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO and external specialists to provide holistic support.
- Adapt learning materials and classroom resources to meet students’ unique requirements.
- Foster an inclusive and positive learning environment, promoting students' well-being and engagement.
- Monitor and record students' progress, feeding back observations to the teaching team.
- Assist with personal care and mobility support, if required, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience for students.
Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Job Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children with SEN and SEMH, particularly in a school or care setting.
- A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or special needs (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, or equivalent) is desirable..
- Understanding of various Special Educational Needs conditions, including SEMH, autism, ADHD etc.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students and staff.
- A calm, patient and empathetic approach to supporting children with diverse needs.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- The ability to use positive behaviour management techniques to support students effectively.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
