As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) in this specialist setting, you will play a pivotal role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. You will be expected to lead whole-class lessons, provide targeted small-group interventions and support individual students to reach their full potential. Working collaboratively with teachers, you will assist in planning, delivering and assessing learning activities, ensuring high standards of education and engagement.
Responsibilities of the Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA):
- Deliver pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects, ensuring continuity of learning in the teacher’s absence.
- Provide targeted interventions and small-group support, addressing specific learning needs and promoting progress.
- Assist with lesson planning, resource preparation and differentiation of learning materials.
- Monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and supporting assessments.
- Support behaviour management strategies, maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment.
- Encourage student participation, confidence and independence in learning.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and support staff to implement effective teaching strategies.
- Provide support for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), adapting activities to ensure inclusivity.
- Uphold safeguarding and welfare policies, ensuring the well-being of all students.
Requirements of the Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA):
- Previous experience as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) or a Teaching Assistant with substantial classroom leadership experience.
- A recognised HLTA qualification or equivalent Level 4 Teaching Assistant certification.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to deliver whole-class lessons confidently.
- Experience in supporting differentiated learning, including working with SEN students.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage, motivate and inspire students.
- A dedicated and proactive approach, ensuring high standards of education and support.
- A commitment to inclusive learning, student well-being and academic excellence.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
