Pastoral Support Officer – Fareham, Hampshire

GSL Education are looking for a committed and proactive Pastoral Support Officer to join a secondary school in Fareham. This full-time role offers a competitive salary between £30,000 and £50,000 per year, with a permanent contract available after a successful probation period. The position starts from Easter 2025 or September 2025, and the school welcomes applicants with experience in pastoral care, youth work, or transferable skills.

Responsibilities of the Pastoral Support Officer:

  • Provide one-to-one and group support to students facing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external agencies to promote student well-being.
  • Implement strategies to improve attendance, behaviour, and engagement in learning.
  • Act as a trusted mentor, offering guidance and encouragement to students who need additional support.
  • Manage and resolve conflicts, promoting a positive and inclusive school environment.
  • Support safeguarding procedures, always ensuring student safety and well-being.

Requirements of the Pastoral Support Officer:

  • Previous experience in pastoral support, youth work, mentoring, SEN, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • The ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • A calm and patient approach to supporting students with complex needs.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
