Job Opportunity: Teaching Assistant – SEMH Support
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Full-time, Term Time only
Salary: Dependent on experience

GSL Education is seeking an experienced Behaviour Support Assistant to work at a specialist SEMH school in York, dedicated to supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as Autism (ASC). The school provides a nurturing and structured learning environment for students who require additional support to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons, ensuring that all students can participate effectively.
  • Build trusting and supportive relationships with students to help them manage emotions, behaviour, and social interactions.
  • Implement structured behaviour management techniques to encourage positive engagement in learning.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to develop and implement effective intervention strategies.
  • Support students in developing essential life skills, promoting independence and confidence.
  • Encourage a calm and inclusive learning environment that fosters emotional well-being.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, or other additional needs.
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to supporting students with challenging behaviours.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • An understanding of safeguarding procedures and behaviour management strategies.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
