SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Scunthorpe
Salary: £83.33 - £90.00 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Full-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to join a school in Scunthorpe. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping students overcome challenges and develop the skills they need to succeed in education and beyond.

About the role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will work closely with students who require additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them to engage positively in their learning and personal development.

SEMH TA Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs, both one-to-one and in small groups.
  • Assist teachers in creating a supportive and structured learning environment.
  • Support students in managing emotions, behaviour, and social interactions.
  • Implement strategies to enhance students’ confidence, resilience, and engagement.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure students receive appropriate support.
  • Encourage a positive and inclusive atmosphere in the classroom and wider school community.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Qualification:

  • A degree in Psychology, Education or in a similar field.
  • Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs as an SEMH Teaching Assistant is desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or a related degree are advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of social, emotional, and mental health challenges in education.
  • Excellent communication, patience, and empathy.
  • Ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
  • An enhanced DBS in the update service or willing to apply for one.
