GSL Education are seeking a Mental Health Support Worker to join a supportive and inclusive school in Weymouth. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them to thrive in an educational setting.
About the Role:
As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will provide tailored support to students experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to create a safe and nurturing environment where students can develop coping strategies and build resilience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and small-group support to students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
- Assist students in managing their emotions, building self-regulation skills, and boosting their confidence.
- Create a positive, structured learning environment to promote engagement.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement effective intervention strategies.
- Offer support to students with anxiety, trauma, and behavioral challenges in both classroom and social settings.
- Track and monitor student progress, providing feedback to staff and parents as required.
- Advocate for mental health and well-being awareness within the school community.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people who have mental health challenges or SEMH needs.
- Strong knowledge of mental health strategies and behavior management techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to form positive relationships with students.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and school staff.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years (with explanations for any gaps).
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service (or the willingness to apply for one).
