Job Title: Graduate Teaching Assistant (Secondary)

Salary: £87 - £108 per day (Depending on experience).
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long-Term

GSL Education are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Graduate Teaching Assistant (GRAD TA) to work within secondary schools in Newcastle. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates who are passionate about education and considering a career in teaching.
Role Overview:
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant (Secondary), you will play a crucial role in supporting teachers, engaging students and contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment. This role provides an excellent stepping stone towards a career in education, allowing you to gain invaluable experience in delivering targeted academic support, managing classroom behaviour and assisting students with additional learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons across a range of subjects to support student progress.
- Provide targeted one-to-one and small group support, helping students build confidence in their learning.
- Support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including autism, ADHD and dyslexia, ensuring they have access to tailored learning strategies.
- Help manage classroom behaviour and student engagement, promoting a positive learning atmosphere.
- Assist with exam preparation, revision sessions and academic interventions.
- Foster independent learning and problem-solving skills, encouraging students to take ownership of their education.
- Observe and monitor student progress, providing feedback to teachers and school staff to enhance learning outcomes.
- Support students’ social, emotional and personal development, offering guidance and encouragement.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to support individual student needs.
- Ensure adherence to safeguarding policies and procedures, prioritising student welfare at all times.
Requirements:
- A degree in education, psychology, English, maths, science, humanities, or a related subject.
- A genuine enthusiasm for working with secondary-aged pupils, demonstrating patience, adaptability and resilience.
- Previous experience in an educational setting, tutoring, mentoring, or youth work (desirable but not essential).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
- An interest in supporting secondary students with additional learning needs, including SEN and EAL pupils.
- A proactive approach to learning and development, with a willingness to participate in professional training.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
