Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time/Permanent

Do you have the skills to de-escalate challenging situations and provide a nurturing environment that promotes positive behaviour? If so, GSL Education are seeking a Behaviour Support Worker to work within a specialist educational setting in Wareham, where your dedication and expertise will help pupils overcome barriers to learning and personal growth.

About the Role:

As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will work closely with pupils who may display challenging behaviours, often linked to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, trauma, or neurodiversity. Your role will be crucial in providing individualised strategies that foster emotional regulation, resilience, and academic engagement.

Responsibilities of Behaviour Support Worker:

  • Provide one-to-one and group interventions, helping pupils develop emotional regulation techniques and behavioural strategies.
  • Support pupils in managing frustration, anxiety, and impulsivity, ensuring they feel safe and supported within the school environment.
  • Implement individual behaviour support plans (BSPs) and adapt approaches based on each pupil’s unique needs.
  • Use de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution strategies to manage challenging behaviours effectively.
  • Promote social and emotional learning, encouraging pupils to build positive relationships and develop self-awareness.
  • Assist with academic engagement, offering support in core subjects to help pupils remain focused and motivated.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams to create a cohesive support network for pupils.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, incidents, and behavioural interventions, ensuring clear communication with staff and families.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures, prioritising pupil safety and wellbeing at all times.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with behavioural challenges, preferably within an educational, residential, or youth work setting.
  • A relevant qualification in Education, Psychology, Counselling, Youth Work, or Special Educational Needs (SEN) is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of SEMH, trauma-informed approaches, and behaviour management techniques.
  • Experience in using positive reinforcement, restorative practices, and de-escalation strategies to support behaviour.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A calm, patient, and proactive approach, ensuring that pupils feel heard, valued, and supported.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to a holistic support plan for each pupil.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).

Benefits:

  • Competitive daily pay rates, recognising your experience and commitment.
  • A dedicated education consultant to provide ongoing support throughout your placement.
  • The opportunity to work within inclusive and well-resourced educational settings committed to pupil success.
  • A fulfilling and dynamic role, where you can make a profound difference in the lives of young people facing behavioural challenges.

If you have the passion, patience, and skills to support young people in overcoming barriers to learning, we would love to hear from you. Apply today to join GSL Education and play a vital role in shaping brighter futures.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or completing an application for a new check.
