Contract Type: Full-time/Permanent
GSL Education are seeking a committed and compassionate Special Education Needs TA to join a welcoming school in Bovington. This role demands patience, adaptability and a genuine commitment to inclusion. Whether delivering one-to-one interventions, facilitating small group activities, or assisting with sensory-based learning, you will be making a tangible difference every day.
About the Role:
As a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that pupils with a range of additional needs—such as autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties and learning disabilities—receive the tailored support they require to flourish. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to create a structured, engaging and supportive learning environment that fosters both academic progress and personal growth.
Special Education Needs TA Responsibilities:
- Provide individualised and small group support, ensuring all pupils can access the curriculum effectively.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), adapting learning materials to meet diverse needs.
- Support children with social, emotional and behavioural challenges, helping them to build resilience and confidence.
- Foster independent learning skills, equipping pupils with strategies to manage their learning effectively.
- Implement a range of SEN strategies, such as visual schedules, sensory breaks and communication aids (e.g., PECs or Makaton).
- Work collaboratively with teachers and SENCOs to differentiate lesson plans and learning objectives for each pupil.
- Monitor pupil progress, providing feedback and contributing to personalised learning plans.
- Promote an inclusive and positive learning environment that enables all children to feel valued and supported.
- Assist with personal care and mobility support, where required, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
Special Education Needs TA Job Requirements:
- Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a support role within an educational setting is highly desirable.
- A relevant qualification in mental health, psychology, counselling, or education is advantageous.
- A strong understanding of SEN strategies and interventions, including autism support, sensory integration and behaviour management techniques.
- An empathetic and proactive approach to supporting children facing challenges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
