Salary Range: £12.82 - £14.72 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Time: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time
About the Role:
As an SEN Learning Support, you will play a vital role in providing tailored support to students with diverse learning needs. Working closely with teachers and SENCOs, you will help create an inclusive and stimulating environment that enables students to engage fully in their education. Your role will involve delivering targeted interventions, assisting with classroom activities and supporting students' social, emotional and academic development.
SEN Learning Support Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with Special Educational Needs, helping them to access learning effectively.
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing tailored education plans, ensuring that students’ individual needs are met.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment, promoting student confidence and independence.
- Support students with additional needs such as autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties and other learning challenges.
- Help manage classroom behaviour, using positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies when necessary.
- Adapt learning materials and resources to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Encourage and support the development of essential life skills, including communication and social interaction.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff to ensure each student’s progress is effectively monitored.
- Assist with personal care tasks where necessary, maintaining a respectful and dignified approach.
SEN Learning Support Job Requirements:
- A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or special educational needs (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent).
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN, either in a school setting or another educational environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
- A compassionate and patient approach, with a genuine commitment to enhancing the educational experiences of students with SEN.
- The ability to adapt to various situations and respond effectively to the needs of individual students.
- Understanding of various Special Education Needs conditions, including autism and ADHD etc.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
