About the Role

As an Academic Support Assistant in Christchurch, you will be at the heart of supporting students with their academic needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. Key Responsibilities of an Academic Support Assistant (ASA)

  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualised education plans for students to tailor educational activities and resources to meet their specific needs.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students to help them understand and complete their work, offering additional explanations and assistance as needed.
  • Monitor and assess students’ progress, provide feedback to teachers, and adjust support strategies as necessary.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure a cohesive approach to students’ development.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment to foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where students feel valued and included.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to engage and motivate students, catering to their diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of students’ progress and report to teachers, parents, and other relevant parties.

Requirements for an Academic Support Assistant (ASA)

  • Previous experience as an Academic Support Assistant or in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the unique challenges and needs of students with specific educational needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues, building positive and supportive relationships.
  • Ability to establish trust and rapport with all members of the school community.
  • Deep commitment to helping students by exhibiting patience and empathy in your interactions.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs (desirable but not essential).

  • An up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • An enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be happy to apply for one.
