Job description

SEN Teaching Assistant – Mainstream Primary Schools (Hull)

Do you have a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Are you looking for a role where you can make a real difference in a mainstream school setting?

GSL Education is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary schools in Hull. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with children who require additional support, helping them to access learning, build confidence, and develop essential life skills. We have multiple opportunities available and encourage applicants looking for both Full-Time and Part-Time opportunities. Our standard day is 08:30-15:30, term time only!

Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in the classroom, providing tailored support to children with additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and physical disabilities. You will work alongside teachers and support staff to ensure all children feel valued and are given the best opportunities to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to children with SEND, helping them engage with learning.
  • Adapt activities and learning materials to suit individual needs.
  • Encourage participation and build confidence in a mainstream classroom setting.
  • Support with behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.
  • Monitor and track student progress, sharing insights with teachers and parents.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Experience working with children with SEND is beneficial but not essential – a willingness to learn is just as important!
  • A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach to supporting children.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with staff and families.
  • A commitment to helping children overcome barriers to learning.
  • A current CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained) and an enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).

What We Offer:

  • A rewarding opportunity to make a real impact in students' lives.
  • Competitive hourly pay (£12.92 - £14.76 per hour, depending on experience).
  • A friendly, supportive school environment with ongoing guidance.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression.

This role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks.

At GSL Education, we are an ethical, inclusive, and independent recruitment agency committed to providing high-quality teaching and support staff to schools across the UK.
