About the Role / Role Overview:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ASD Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive and welcoming primary school. As part of the school’s SEND team, you will provide one-to-one and group support for children with ASD, enabling them to access the curriculum effectively. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to ensure that every child receives the best possible care and education.
Key Responsibilities of ASD Teaching Assistant (TA):
- Provide tailored, individual support to students with ASD, both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Help students to build confidence, develop social skills, and improve their communication abilities.
- Assist in the delivery of individual education plans (IEPs) and adapt teaching materials to suit the needs of each student.
- Support students during social and emotional challenges, implementing strategies to help with regulation and self-control.
- Work closely with the class teacher to monitor student progress and assist with behavioural management techniques.
- Foster a nurturing, inclusive environment where students feel valued and supported.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
Requirements for the role of ASD Teaching Assistant (TA):
- Previous experience as an ASD Teaching Assistant or in a similar role, supporting children with ASD in a primary school setting.
- Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and understanding of strategies and approaches to support children with ASD in a learning environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with both children and adults effectively.
- A patient, calm, and empathetic approach to working with children with complex needs.
- A relevant educational qualification (Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent), or a similar qualification in special educational needs.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
