Salary: £140 - £190 per day (Depending on experience).
Start Date: ASAP/ Easter term of 2025
Contract Type: Day-to-Day / Long-Term, Full-Time / Part-Time

About the Role:

As a History Teacher at GSL Education, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality history lessons that engage and challenge students, helping them to develop a strong understanding of key historical events, themes and figures. You will be expected to design and implement a curriculum that stimulates curiosity and encourages independent thought.

Key Responsibilities of the History Teacher:

  • Plan and deliver stimulating history lessons in line with the national curriculum, fostering students’ curiosity and critical thinking skills.
  • Create and implement differentiated lesson plans to ensure all students are engaged and making progress, regardless of their ability level.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback and support to help students reach their full potential.
  • Foster an inclusive and positive classroom environment where all students are encouraged to engage, participate and explore historical topics with enthusiasm.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and school events that promote the study of history and its relevance in the modern world.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers and staff members to develop and refine the history curriculum and share best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student achievement, providing regular reports to parents and school leadership.

History Teacher requirements:

  • The successful candidate must hold a PGCE in History (or a relevant subject) with Qualified Teaching Status (QTS).
  • Previous experience teaching History at the secondary school level is desirable, although Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who have completed their training placements are strongly encouraged to apply
  • A passion for history and a strong ability to engage students with diverse historical periods, events and perspectives.
  • Excellent classroom management skills, with the ability to create a disciplined and motivating learning environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage students, colleagues and parents effectively.
  • A commitment to fostering critical thinking, research skills and historical enquiry in students.
  • The ability to inspire students to appreciate the importance of history in understanding the present and shaping the future.
  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
  • Be able to provide a ten-year career history with relevant reference details covering the last two years, including your most recent place of academic employment.
