Salary: £76.92 - £95.68 Per Day (Depending on Experience)
Contract Type: Full-time/Permanent

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistant in Blandford to provide essential guidance and encouragement to students facing emotional and mental health challenges.

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant (Mental Health TA), you will play a vital role in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, ensuring that students feel safe, supported, and empowered to succeed. Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff, and SENCOs, you will help students build resilience, confidence, and self-esteem while assisting with their educational development.

Mental Health Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with mental health needs.
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Work closely with school staff to develop and implement tailored support strategies.
  • Offer emotional support to students, helping them manage their mental well-being.
  • Encourage and motivate students to engage with their learning.
  • Support students with social skills, confidence-building, and self-regulation techniques.
  • Help implement behaviour management strategies in collaboration with teachers.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to staff and parents when required.
  • Promote a safe and supportive atmosphere within the school environment.
  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.

Skills & Qualifications for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant (Mental Health TA):

  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or childcare is desirable.
  • A degree in Psychology, Education or in a similar field.
  • Previous experience working with students with mental health needs as a Mental Health Teaching Assistant is desirable.
  • A compassionate and patient approach to supporting young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
  • Possess an enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
