SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Hedge End
Salary: £12.82 - £14.72 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day to Day / Long Term, Full-Time / Part-Time

GSL Education are looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant in Hedge End to support students in their academic and personal development. This role is ideal for someone who is caring, patient, and committed to helping children overcome barriers to learning.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will work closely with teachers and SEN specialists to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, ensuring that every child receives the attention and encouragement they need to thrive.

SEN TA Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with special educational needs.
  • Assist teachers in implementing personalised learning plans tailored to each student's needs.
  • Help create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Support students with their social and emotional development, fostering confidence and independence.
  • Adapt lesson materials and teaching strategies to suit different learning styles.
  • Assist with behaviour management and encourage positive interactions among students.
  • Provide additional help to students with physical, sensory, or communication needs.
  • Monitor progress and report any concerns to teachers and SEN staff.
  • Support students in developing key life skills alongside their academic learning.

Requirements that we’re looking for in an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance is advantageous.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, particularly in a SEN setting, is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of SEN needs, learning difficulties, and behaviour management strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children’s development.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
