About the Role/Role Overview

As an Academic Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in assisting students with their learning, working closely with teachers to enhance the overall classroom experience. Your primary responsibility will be to provide targeted academic support to students, helping them to overcome learning barriers and reach their full potential. This role is particularly suited to individuals who are passionate about education and keen to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic school setting.

Academic Support Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic support to students in both one-to-one and small-group settings.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging lessons across a range of subjects.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation.
  • Support students with additional learning needs to ensure equal access to education.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of teaching materials and classroom resources.
  • Promote positive behaviour management and uphold school policies.

Academic Support Assistant Requirements: To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A relevant qualification in education, psychology, or a related field (desirable but not essential).
  • Prior experience as an Academic Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, or within a similar educational setting is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, staff and parents.
  • A proactive and patient approach to supporting learners with varying abilities and educational needs.
  • A solid understanding of the UK curriculum and academic expectations across different key stages.
  • The ability to motivate and inspire students, fostering a growth mindset towards learning.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
