Advanced Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £83 - £100 per day
Contract Type: 0.6 FTE, Term Time Only, Permanent
Are you a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with special educational needs? If so, join a committed team at a Secondary School in York as an Advanced Teaching Assistant, starting as soon as possible.

- The school currently works with students who have a wide range of additional needs, such as dyslexia, physical disabilities, issues with speech, language, and communication, conditions on the autism spectrum, more general learning difficulties, individuals with rare syndromes, impairments to hearing and vision, and attention deficit disorders.
Advanced Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with special educational needs.
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons adapted to individual learning styles.
- Support students with personal care and social skills development as required.
- Deliver targeted intervention programs to individuals and small groups.
- Track and monitor progress towards life-skill goals and/or EHCP.
- Use specialist strategies to manage behavior and promote positive interactions.
- Supervise students during activities, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.
- Actively contribute to the wider school community through participation and engagement in school initiatives.
Advanced Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in Teaching Assistance or a related field.
- Specialism in SEN and/or EAL is desirable.
- Experience working with secondary school students, particularly those with additional or special educational needs.
- A strong understanding of SEN and strategies for supporting students with diverse learning requirements.
- Passion for education, with a genuine desire to make a positive impact on young lives.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques and effective approaches to supporting students with SEN.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply for a new one through GSL Education.
