SEMH Cover Supervisor

Location: Colchester
Salary: £90 - £110 per day
Contract: Temporary, full-time
Start Date: ASAP

In this role, you’ll join a school dedicated to promoting respect, inclusion, and resilience, tailoring approaches to meet the unique needs of SEMH students.


Key Responsibilities

As a SEMH Cover Supervisor, your role will involve:

Support for Pupils

  • Supervising whole classes and small groups during teacher absences.
  • Setting high expectations for behavior and engagement, acting as a positive role model.
  • Promoting inclusion, acceptance, and emotional well-being for all students.
  • Maintaining focus on assigned tasks and addressing any general student queries.

Support for Teachers

  • Providing accurate feedback on lesson conduct and student engagement.
  • Keeping records as agreed with teaching staff.
  • Addressing behavior incidents promptly and positively, following school policy.

Support for the Curriculum

  • Assisting students in using ICT and other classroom resources effectively.
  • Supporting SEMH-focused interventions and activities where needed.

Support for the School

  • Offering cover in various areas of the school as required.
  • Upholding child protection, equal opportunities, and health and safety policies.
  • Participating in training, staff meetings, and additional duties such as lunchtime supervision.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young adults, particularly in SEMH settings.
  • Strong behavior management skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Confidence in supervising classes across subjects and year groups.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic ICT proficiency to support classroom activities.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies.
