SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary
Location: Sunderland
Salary: £87 - £108 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long Term

GSL Education are excited to offer the role of Social, Emotional and Mental Health Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to work at one of our client secondary schools in Sunderland.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with secondary school students who require additional emotional and mental health support. Your role will involve providing both academic and pastoral assistance to help students manage their emotions, stay engaged with their learning, and make positive progress in their studies. You will be working alongside a dedicated team of teachers and staff to create a safe, nurturing environment where every student can thrive.

Key Responsibilities of the SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary):

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs, helping them access lessons and achieve their potential.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of personalized learning plans for students.
  • Help manage students' behavior in a constructive and positive way, ensuring a supportive and safe classroom environment.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, offering emotional and social support.
  • Work alongside teachers to monitor student progress, adjust support strategies, and ensure students are on track.
  • Support students in managing challenging situations and improve their emotional well-being.

What We Are Looking for in the SEMH TA:

  • Previous experience supporting students with SEMH needs is preferred but not essential.
  • A passion for working with secondary school students and helping them overcome challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward supporting young people with diverse needs.
  • A commitment to promoting inclusion and providing a safe, supportive environment for all students.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
