Job Title: Learning Support Mentor
Location: Dorchester
Pay Rate: £12.82 per hour
Start Date: January 2025
Contract Type: Full-time  (Part-time option available)

About the Role:
As a Learning Support Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with their educational and behavioural needs. You will work closely with teachers to provide one-on-one and group support, helping students to improve their academic skills and manage their behaviour. Your role will also involve assisting in the preparation of lesson materials, supporting classroom activities, and providing feedback on student progress.

Key Responsibilities of Learning Support Mentor

  • Work with teachers to create tailored support plans that address the unique needs of each student. Regularly review and adjust these plans to ensure they remain effective and relevant.
  • Offer one-on-one and group support to help students overcome learning and behavioural challenges. Use evidence-based strategies to support students in developing their academic skills and managing their behaviour.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help students develop strategies to manage their emotions and actions. Provide consistent encouragement and reinforcement to help students stay motivated and engaged in their learning.
  • Ensure a supportive and inclusive classroom environment by working with teachers to implement learning strategies that promote a positive and inclusive learning environment. Support teachers in addressing learning challenges and fostering a culture of respect and cooperation.
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress and behaviour and provide regular updates to teachers, parents, and other relevant parties to ensure a coordinated approach to each student’s development.
  • Collaborate with external professionals to ensure that students receive comprehensive support. Work with counsellors, social workers, and other professionals to provide holistic support to students.

Requirements of Learning Support Mentor

  • Previous experience as a Learning Support Mentor or in a similar role, particularly with SEND, SEMH, or ASD.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students in their educational journey.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education or special needs are desirable.
