GSL Education are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Academic Support Assistant to join a dynamic school in Weymouth. This is a fantastic opportunity to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in their academic journey and help them achieve their full potential.
About the Role:
As an Academic Support Assistant, you will be a key figure in supporting students with their learning needs. You will provide one-on-one and group support to help students understand and master various subjects, develop and implement learning strategies, and work closely with teachers and other staff to create a positive learning environment. Your role will also involve supporting students in developing study skills and academic resilience, monitoring and recording their progress, and liaising with parents and carers to ensure comprehensive support for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with teachers and support staff to create tailored learning plans that address the specific needs of each student. Regularly review and adjust these plans to ensure they remain effective and relevant.
- Offer one-on-one and small group interventions to help students understand and master various subjects. Use evidence-based strategies to support students in developing positive learning habits and overcoming challenges.
- Teach and reinforce study skills, helping students understand and manage their academic workload. Encourage positive interactions and model appropriate behaviour.
- Work alongside classroom teachers to implement learning strategies that promote a positive and inclusive learning environment. Support teachers in addressing academic issues and fostering a culture of respect and cooperation.
- Maintain detailed records of students’ progress and any interventions used. Provide regular updates to teachers, parents, and other relevant parties to ensure a coordinated approach to each student’s development.
- Liaise with external agencies to ensure that students receive comprehensive support. Collaborate with counsellors, social workers, and other professionals to address the broader needs of students and their families.
Requirements
- Previous experience as an Academic Support Assistant or in a similar educational role.
- Experience working with students with SEND, SEMH, and ASD.
- A genuine passion for supporting students with their learning needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Relevant qualifications or training in education or tutoring are desirable.
Benefits:
- Competitive Pay: Enjoy a pay rate of £12.82 per hour.
- Flexible Work Hours: Full-time with part-time options available for the right candidate.
- Immediate Start Option: Start in January 2025 or join earlier if available.
